In the State of Arizona, a person driving with a blood alcohol level of .08 or above is considered drunk.

The state prohibits this and you will face penalties if you break this law.

Arizona DUI Laws and Penalties

A first offense will warrant a $450 fine plus an additional $500 for a DUI Assessment. You may also face up to ten days in jail and your license will be suspended from anywhere between 90 to 360 days.

A second offense gets even more expensive. A fine of $900, plus an additional $1,250 for a second DUI Assessment will be charged. Jail times also increases to up to 90 days. If that is not bad enough, your license will be revoked for one year and you will be forced to install an interlock ignition device in any vehicle you own. The interlock ignition device keeps a car from starting until you blow into a tube to prove you have not taken part in any alcohol consumption.

If you are convicted a third time for a DUI, expect to pay a $1350 fine, a $250 DUI assessment, plus an additional $1500 aggravated DUI assessment. In Arizona, a “aggravated DUI” is considered when a person receives three drunken driving convictions within 60 days. This is a felony and could result in four months in jail and mandatory drug and alcohol testing, plus counseling. For three years you license will be revoked and you will also have to install an interlock ignition device. Plus, the state may claim possession of your car and sale it.

Arizona Extreme DUI Laws and Penalties

Arizona also has an Extreme DUI category. This is a person whose has driven within two hours of having a blood alcohol level of .15 or higher. If convicted of this charge, it is considered a criminal misdemeanor.

For a first offense of Extreme DUI, a $900 fine, $250 for DUI Assessment, plus an additional $1250 for extreme driving DUI assessment. Your license will be taken away for a year and you will have to install an interlock ignition device in any car you own.

If convicted for a second extreme DUI within five years of the first, expect a $450 fine, $250 for a DUI Assessment, and $1000 for extreme DUI assessment, a suspension of your license from 90 days to a year. And an interlock ignition device will have to be installed in any vehicle you own.
